La Universidad del Zulia ( LUZ ) is a university located in the autonomous Zulia State , Venezuela . Founded in 1891 . Considered as one of the largest universities in the country and one of the most recommended, it is a public institution with about 75,000 students undergraduate and graduate , distributed in 11 schools in the city of Maracaibo and two centers, one in Cabimas and another in Punto Fijo ( Falcon ). It consists of 27 schools, postgraduate courses in 56 runs and 100 graduate programs. I
Since the early nineteenth century, the inhabitants of Maracaibo had sued the government of Jose Antonio Paez creating an institution of higher education on the basis of existing Seminary College. This application was unsuccessful but marabinos persisted in its efforts: it was essential to a university that accompany the economic, cultural and intellectual development of the region.Trade opened highways and trade routes transited new ideas and products. So one receptive to innovations, generating new inventions and creations progressive society was formed. That is why scientific advances such as steamship, electricity, telephones, movies, driving on trams, are incorporated into the life of Zulia before the rest of Venezuela.
