The purpose and function of the education in the Technological Institutes is designed to develop and incorporate characteristics specific to their region since their operation meets the demands of the environment where it is located. Technological Institutes are institutions under the federal higher education, whose main function is to train professionals in the industrial and service areas. In 1972 it was founded in Chetumal Center Scientific and Technological # 165 nationally dependent of the Secretariat for Education and Technology Research Institution, which over time would serve as a platform for the creation of the Regional Institute of Technology Chetumal.On October 8, 1975, began its work the Regional Technological Institute of Chetumal, with racing Bachelor in Business Administration and Civil Engineering Community Development, becoming this fact the first institution at a higher level and therefore the highest seat of learning in the state, also absorbing the technical specialties that are taught in the CECYT # 165.
