Second options are better options- du second cutoff list.

With the University of Delhi releasing its second cutoff list on 1st July, students across the city are rapidly cancelling admissions they took in the first list.

Cutoffs have dropped close to 3% in many colleges, opening avenues for students who wanted colleges and courses of their choice.

Many students took colleges in the first list “to secure a seat in DU”. Students had opted for courses and colleges that were not first options in the first list. It was a “settlement” they made.

After colleges were unable to fill a majority of their seats in the first list, many colleges decided to play it safe in order to get more students enrolled.

Many colleges, including Kirori Mal College(KMC) and Sri Venkateswara College, have reported instances of withdrawals after the announcement of the second list.

As many as 70 students have withdrawn admissions from Kirori Mal College, which plans to drop cutoffs further in the third list.

Colleges like CVS and Sri Venkateswara have witnessed close to 20 cancellations.

While volunteers at undergraduate helpdesks have been working hard to make the process as easy as possible, there have been instances of students’ profile not reflecting the withdrawal, which leaves them unable to apply at other colleges.

Authorities have reported that this has been an issue with colleges being unaware of the cancellation procedure on the portal. The students were sent without actually cancelling their admission and the other college would not be able to approve the same.

Although the University has witnessed many cancellations and shifts in the second list, DU is still a farfetched dream for students scoring below 90%.

English is above 90% in all colleges except Satyawati (Evening), where the cutoff stands at 89%. Until now, only two colleges (KMC and Mata Sundari College) have closed admissions for B.A.(H)English. LSR has the highest cutoff for English at 97.5%. The steepest drop has been seen by Dyal Singh College (Evening) where the cutoff dropped from 96% to 92%.

The highest cutoff for Economics Honours is at Hindu College at 97.25% and the lowest at Satyawati where it stands at 92%. Out of the 38 colleges that offer B.A.(H) Economics, only 5 have been able to close admissions.

B.Com(H) has been closed in LSR and Shaheed Bhagat Singh College (Evening). Out of the 54 colleges that offer the course, the cutoff is at 95% and above at 31 colleges and between 90%-95% in the other 21 colleges.

Out of the 38 colleges that offer Mathematics (Hons), admissions have been closed in seven. The cutoff for Mathematics is 95% and above in 11 colleges and between 90%-95% at 20 colleges.

Chemistry Honours has been closed in four colleges, with cutoffs in all colleges above 90% which includes six of them keeping it above 95%.

As of Saturday evening, Miranda House had filled close to half of their available seats.

Ramjas has reportedly filled two-thirds of their available seats in the second list.

SGTB Khalsa has set some of the highest cutoffs with numbers soaring as high as 99.66%, but there haven’t been many takers and the college is witnessing a slow admission process.
